"EELRIJUE" - Algorhythms

The next time Big Heavy World does one of their music business seminars, I should teach a panel on How to Achieve and Maintain Total Obscurity. Until then, I'll just leave you with a pro tip: make a concept album which is impossible to even partially explain. The latest project from Algorhythms is precisely that. Won't bother trying: this is just a token post to signal that this album actually happened.

Godforbid & Thirtyseven - "Fear of Death and the Need for Reproduction"

Back when Wombaticus Rex was still a new thing, the NEK was bumping Alaskan Fishermen pretty heavy. It's not exactly a famous name but it does fit every requirement for a "cult classic," a Lo-Life concept album on Skillionaire Enterprises back when Thirstin Howl the 3rd was getting introduced to a whole new global audience by his Lyricist Lounge appearances. What all that boils down to is a bunch of people doing illegal things on back roads and learning every word off Fire & Ice, the first Alaskan Fishermen album. Back then, Godforbid was one of my favorite rappers.

Ten years later and we're releasing an album. An inspirational story, heart-warming & saccharine sweet stuff, I know. This was recorded at Vault 46 in Boston, who are sadly shutting down later this year, and mixed / mastered by the General Walter Westinghouse at NEKtones Studio in beautiful Burlington, VT. The results are rather massive.

Update: The EU/UK hip hop site The Word is Bond have concluded this was "a gorgeous slice of Americana tinged hip hop." BAM.

"Pedestrian" - Wombaticus Rex

Does the world need another a-capella, spoken-word, free-verse rap-thing? Almost definitely not. That didn't prevent me from making one, however. This is dedicated to the 217.

Algorhythms: Deluxe Edition EP

With Algorhythms gearing up to release our new project EELRIJUE, we wanted to tie up some loose ends and finally give our debut EP a proper release. This is that. We've remastered the original tracks, courtesy of Gen. Walter Westinghouse, and added four singles to the mix. We've also printed it up on a limited run of Turquoise Tapes -- yep, actual rap cassettes. You can order 'em for just $7 -- we've already sold about half of 'em.

Wombaticus Rex - "Live from Vermontistan"

This was recorded on Burke Mountain, October 26th 2013. Thank you to The NEKtones for having us play, thank you to Walter Westinghouse for flawless engineering, thank you to Louis Mackey for hauling up to the Northeast Kingdom to back me up and rap some raps.

This show is a collage drawing on Wombaticus vintage material, Algorhythms psychedelic jams, Hump Jones party sex, and abundantly pilfers from No Humans Allowed, my project with Louis Mackey. There is a ton of unreleased material here; it will all be out eventually.

Thank you to Vermont for always supporting a weirdo.

"Been a Long Year" - Wombaticus Rex

World Around Records is releasing a "lost album" from Wombaticus Rex, circa 2004. Northeast Kingdom hip hop trio Wombaticus Rex consisted of emcees Thirtyseven & Chris Dizzy over producer DJ Multiple Sex Partners.

This release is a prelude for lots of new 2013 material. My next release will be a single off the new NEKtones album, Proof of Concept.

"No Days Off" - Daimyo ft. Humpasaur Jones

Daimyo is from NY, which is close enough to be considered local by most measures, but just to seal the deal, I rapped all over this. Daimyo just dropped his debut album with Cult Classic Records, who do dope work. His album is both awesome and free, so I recommend it. (Side note: You heard "Big Bad" yet?)

Double side note: check out his instrumental jam "Sister Marcus."

VERMONT HIP HOP IS BACK

I'm sorry I was gone so long! Blame the Navy.

Here's what's been going on since I left: first and foremost, The Loyalists have a new album out and it's nothing less than FUCKING AMAZING. Caps lock, swears and all. Every single track is a gem. Hardly anyone in hip hop makes an album like that. I'm sure Loyalists would like to be known as Cali hip hop now that they've left Vermont but we'll always know where they started from, and they're still the best music VT has ever produced.

I'll be doing a whole post on their new album, with links to buy it, in the next couple days.

I was also extremely impressed with the Algorhythms EP, which is Wombaticus Rex emcee Thirtyseven collaborating with Boston-area producer (superproducer?) Dr. Quandary. This was an experience: I had myself a sizable joint, sat down and gave this my full attention, and it's still in heavy rotation three weeks later. The lyrics are out of control and Quandary is on some outerspace funk shit with this EP. Very, very tasty music -- and it's free.

Of course, the new Aztext album has been out for awhile, but it's stood the test of time. I still bump The Sacred Document all the time, especially ROLL CALL. I wake up to that jam!

I'm just getting back into the swing of things, trying to reconnect with people...what's up with Rhythm Ruckus? I'm always worried that my favorite acts are going to retire. More updates coming!

IF YOU'RE DOING HIP HOP IN VERMONT, GET AT ME. Let me know what you're doing, let me know about upcoming shows. Again, I'm really sorry to get this started off and just let it die, but I'll stick to it now. Vermont needs this and I'm sure not giving up the name to someone else.

PEACE!
