August 21: DJ Abilities @ Zen Lounge

This week's Big Deal is the arrival of legendary turntablist DJ Abilities, who has brought along an impressive bill including NYC rapper Premrock and Denver, CO circus animal Jake Spike. These cats all put on entertaining, virtuoso sets. There will also be local support from DJ Kanga with Self Portrait, Lynguistic Civilians and something called "Wombaticus Rex," which is a deeply stupid name.

This is an 18+ hip hop show in downtown Burlington. That is a good thing. $5 at the door. See you at the bar.

"EELRIJUE" - Algorhythms

The next time Big Heavy World does one of their music business seminars, I should teach a panel on How to Achieve and Maintain Total Obscurity. Until then, I'll just leave you with a pro tip: make a concept album which is impossible to even partially explain. The latest project from Algorhythms is precisely that. Won't bother trying: this is just a token post to signal that this album actually happened.

July 29th: WRITE BROTHERS PARTY at Nectars

Learic and Dante DaVinci have created something monumentally heavy with their "Write Brothers" project. We've already documented some of the nationwide buzz they've been getting just off the first two singles. Tuesday night at Nectars will be your chance to hear the entire project get debuted at one of Vermont's finest establishments, the legendary Nectars on Main Street Burlington.

DJ Fattie B will be in the house showcasing his increasingly awesome remix/mashup work, and Wombaticus Rex will be kicking off the Rap with special guest Godforbid. We'll be doing the new EP "Fear of Death and the Need for Reproduction" straight through.

It should probably be mentioned that this show is completely free.

C'mon down.

"Pedestrian" - Wombaticus Rex

Does the world need another a-capella, spoken-word, free-verse rap-thing? Almost definitely not. That didn't prevent me from making one, however. This is dedicated to the 217.

Algorhythms: Deluxe Edition EP

With Algorhythms gearing up to release our new project EELRIJUE, we wanted to tie up some loose ends and finally give our debut EP a proper release. This is that. We've remastered the original tracks, courtesy of Gen. Walter Westinghouse, and added four singles to the mix. We've also printed it up on a limited run of Turquoise Tapes -- yep, actual rap cassettes. You can order 'em for just $7 -- we've already sold about half of 'em.

Es-K x Wombaticus Rex - "Math"

Just something fresh we cooked up. There will be more of these sneak attacks in 2014.

Check out Spontaneous Grooves for more of Es-K's work.

Jan 17th: No Humans Allowed, Boomslang, Learic, Wombaticus Rex @ Charlie-O's World Famous

Psyched to be returning to the finest dive bar in Vermont -- and perhaps the world -- and more psyched to be bringing No Humans Allowed to the most appropriate possible venue for The Viking Assault. Better yet, we're bringing Boomslang and Learic from The Aztext.

Wombaticus Rex - "Live from Vermontistan"

This was recorded on Burke Mountain, October 26th 2013. Thank you to The NEKtones for having us play, thank you to Walter Westinghouse for flawless engineering, thank you to Louis Mackey for hauling up to the Northeast Kingdom to back me up and rap some raps.

This show is a collage drawing on Wombaticus vintage material, Algorhythms psychedelic jams, Hump Jones party sex, and abundantly pilfers from No Humans Allowed, my project with Louis Mackey. There is a ton of unreleased material here; it will all be out eventually.

Thank you to Vermont for always supporting a weirdo.

"No Days Off" - Daimyo ft. Humpasaur Jones

Daimyo is from NY, which is close enough to be considered local by most measures, but just to seal the deal, I rapped all over this. Daimyo just dropped his debut album with Cult Classic Records, who do dope work. His album is both awesome and free, so I recommend it. (Side note: You heard "Big Bad" yet?)

Double side note: check out his instrumental jam "Sister Marcus."
